Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Named No. 1 City Hotel in Vietnam by Travel + Leisure

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was named the best city hotel in Vietnam for 2025 by Travel + Leisure magazine, one of the world’s most influential travel publications.

The luxury heritage hotel in the heart of the Vietnamese capital was singled out as “a symbol of French-colonial elegance and refined hospitality since 1901” by the magazine’s editors at the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2025 hosted in Bangkok on June 18.

Travel + Leisure went on to praise Metropole Hanoi’s newly renovated Heritage Wing as “rich with classic architecture … with high ceilings, marble floors, and antique touches; and the Opera Wing, which keeps things bright and modern, so you get history and contemporary comfort all in one stylish package.”

The magazine hailed the hotel as “a living piece of history,” hosting over the decades world leaders, royalty, actors, writers, artists and other dignitaries. It added: “If you’re into a little adventure, the wartime bunker tours give you a cool underground peek into Hanoi’s past.”

The honor follows other major accolades for Metropole Hanoi over the past year. Condé Nast Traveler recognized Vietnam’s Grande Dame as one of the 72 best hotels and resorts in the world in the U.S. magazine’s prestigious Gold List 2025. Metropole Hanoi was also named one of the “World’s 500 Best Hotels” by Travel + Leisure in 2024.
