Patmos Aktis, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa will reopen on 22 May following a full renovation and repositioning, completing a multi-year transformation that firmly establishes it as the only luxury beachfront resort on Patmos.

Now part of The Luxury Collection, this will be the hotel’s first full season in its new guise. The final phase introduces 33 new beachfront suites, an expanded wellness offering and the arrival of Barolo, a well-known Italian restaurant making its debut on the island following its popularity in Athens.

Patmos has always attracted a different kind of traveller. Often described as the “Jerusalem of the Mediterranean”, it is said to be where St John the Theologian wrote the Book of Revelation. Today, it remains quietly under the radar: no airport, strict planning laws, and a year-round population of around 3,000. The result is an island that feels considered rather than crowded, with a loyal following of Athenian regulars and a wider creative crowd who return year after year.

A COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION

Over recent years, Patmos Aktis Resort & Spa has undergone a full renovation across guestrooms, suites, villas and all public spaces, alongside a repositioning of its spa and dining concepts.

Originally developed in the 1960s as part of Greece’s state-led Xenia programme, the hotel has been reimagined to align with The Luxury Collection’s emphasis on destination-led, characterful properties.

The transformation has been led by Stylianidis Vaggelis Architects, with interiors by Patricia Anastassiadis (known for luxury hospitality projects including Fairmont Copacabana in Rio and Palácio Tangará in São Paulo). Set within the small seaside village of Grikos Bay, the resort’s design reflects a contemporary interpretation of Greek island living, with cream, white and soft blue tones paired with natural materials and local artwork throughout.

FINAL PHASE: NEW FOR 2026

The 2026 season marks the final phase of this transformation, introducing:

  • 33 new suites, including beachfront and private-pool options within a newly developed wing, designed to enhance space, privacy and connection to the surrounding landscape

  • An expanded wellness offering at Anasa Wellness & Spa, considered the island’s leading wellness space, with treatments and experiences inspired by Patmos’ spiritual heritage and Blue Zone lifestyle, including yoga, meditation, sound healing and guided hiking, alongside dedicated wellness weeks

  • An enhanced culinary offering, led by the arrival of Barolo, bringing a refined Italian dining concept to the island. This complements the resort’s existing restaurant, Plefsis Tavern, offering a contemporary take on traditional Dodecanese cuisine

In keeping with The Luxury Collection ethos of exploring beneath the surface, guest experiences are designed to connect visitors with the island’s cultural and natural highlights. These include private boat journeys to hidden coves and nearby islets, guided access to monasteries and hillside chapels, architecture-led walks through Chora, vineyard tastings and wellness rituals shaped by the island’s landscape and light. A considered programme of family-friendly activities is also available, with creative and nature-led experiences for younger guests.

Patmos is accessed via a two-hour ferry from Kos, which is served by direct flights from London, or via overnight ferry from Athens. Private boat and helicopter transfers are also available.
